Trenton Airport Limited is classified as a "Local Commercial" Airport with a location identifier of "CYTN" and is owned and operated by the Sobeys Capital Incorporated. The airport was started as a private flying operation in 1929 by a local group of devoted flyers, and was later named after James Mollison, who flew the first western solo crossing of the Atlantic and touched down on the once then grassy strip. Construction of the airport commenced in 1928 and after four years, Jimmy Wade, an early Canadian aviation pioneer, flying a tiny De Havilland Gypsy Moth, made the first landing on a 320 foot grass airstrip on June 1932. Officially the Trenton Airport opened on this date in 1932. In the year 1950 the Airport left private ownership and became the property of the Town of Trenton until October 2006.
